Firefly Lands on Lightroom Adobe continues to take a leadership role in fair and equitable Generative AI. It assures that creators get fair compensation and recognitions and helps keep its users free from copyright lawsuits. It’s a win-win all around. Plus, Adobe’s GenAI initiative, Firefly, continues to go in the direction of labor-saving rather than job-taking. In May, Adobe announced that Firefly will be bringing more of its AI magic to Lightroom. It first appeared last fall as an “Early Access” features, Lens Blur. That could create realistic foreground or background blur where there was none in the original photo. This was a boon to those of us who love the look that comes from using a wide-angle lens but don’t always want that much background detail. The newest Firefly feature is Generative Remove. It has taken up residence uder the Heal tool, which has been renamed Remove. It uses GenAI to let you remove larger objects and intelligently fill in the gap that it left. All you need to do is use its brush to cover the object to be removed; there’s an object-aware option for the brush that’s quite helpful. After it’s done its magic, you get a few different options for what Firefly chose for the fill. This was a feature previewed in the Adobe Sneaks session at the last MAX conference to loud applause and not a few gasps.
