Cubik speakers from Palo Alto Audio have been on the market for some time now. They have built a steady stream of audio fans based on their unique design and proprietary audio technology. Having received a set for review, we gave it a spin. The product was impressive from the outside, but what about sound quality? The interior design of the box itself is a work of art; precisely packaged and with each element in a neat compartment. The screw-assembly of the base took under a minute. The USB connection is simple and both PC & MAC computers recognized the speaker immediately. They fit neatly on my cluttered desktop. Sleek, contemporary design; small footprint. Now for the sound. Blew me away! Crystal clear sound from this small box was truly impressive! It is true; the USB cable delivered a great sound: highs, lows and mid-tones. Just perfect for my desktop music experience. Apparently the cubik has some equally impressive internal technology: a chip that contains a DSP, digital audio amplifier and an USB soundcard. The DSP helps control the frequencies so that bass does not require huge sub-woofers. These remarkable speakers – amazing for their size – are a worthwhile investment for the music aficionado. I enjoyed music, movies and games on my laptop. Go get a pair – you will not be disappointed.
