Having Fun Yet? Adobe Express is, in many ways, a breakthrough product. It was made for a broader market of non-pros yet it includes a lot of the company’s state-of-the-art AI technology and features. The design goal was to not only make these tools easier to understand and use but making the product fun to use. That took a lot of serious work. Based on Express’s remarkable success, the designers got it right. Students and non-profits are creating visual experiences with AI tools that were in the realm of science fiction not many years ago. Though we don’t have a definite roadmap, we now know some of the areas that Spectrum 2 will impact. Expect the icons within the applications to evolve from the “sharp rationality” of Spectrum to something like what you see in Adobe Express. Their design will let them pair well with Adobe’s signature typeface, Adobe Clean. The colors within Adobe applications will also be evolving. They will be moving towards Adobe’s brand color palette to be more consistent between applications. Grayscale interface elements will have more contrast, and in the future, this may become user defined. A new geometric shape toolkit is in development as part of Spectrum 2. These shapes will have the ability to be easily combined to create more complex shapes like banners, illustrations, and other useful objects. Many, if not most of the changes brought about though Spectrum 2 will be subtle, yet noticeable. We think the move will be like Apple’s transition a from bubbly skeuomorphic interface to the simpler, flatter design we see today. The company is not only working with its own diverse team of experts on this but is getting input from its community of Adobe Insiders who are some of the best of the best and most talented creators from around the world. And when you have some of the world’s best designers on your product design tool’s team, you’re bound to see the kind of change we can all live with, and maybe even live a little better with.
