Whole New Dimensions After Effects has come a long way making 3D easier to work with for those of us who normally work in a 2D domain. With this update, currently a public beta, the tools are getting even better and easier to work with. First off, when the layer you’re working on is enabled for 3D, pan, orbit, and dolly controls pop into the toolbar. New default settings let you jump right in and start manipulating a multi-layer document as 3D. This is made even easier with new hot-keys for moving around in the camera views. From our perspective, the best of all are the new 3D transform controls (the “gizmo” as Adobe likes to call it). It’s designed to make fine control far easier, transforming as needed to get the details just right. But in our opinion, the best part about it is that it’s put on some weight and is far easier to see and manipulate when it’s over an already-busy image.
