MacDirectory’s Pre-Holiday Buyer’s Guide This year get your holiday gifts early and surprise the entire family! By Claudia Paredes and Thomas Bender WorkForce Pro WF-3820 Wireless All-in-One Printer Now more than ever, having a reliable printer at home is a must. I used to do all my printing at work, so I didn’t think that I needed a printer at home. After all, if I needed to print the occasional form that needed a signature, I simply printed it in the office. But now that I find myself working from home, I find myself needing a printer in my home office. Now I need to print more than just the occasional form, I have to also print for work. Additionally, having a scanner to quickly send documents to co-workers has become essential. The new WorkForce 3820 lets me print up to 25 pages per minute, it comes with a built-in scanner and copier, and even works as a fax (of course, you need to have a land line for that feature to work). This printer does automatic two-sided printing, and the ink dries quickly, so no smudges are left behind after you pick them up from the tray. It has a decent size footprint, so this is not the kind of thing you’ll be able to hide in a cabinet. The WorkForce 3820 comes with a large intuitive display where you’ll be able to make all the selections needed. Here is where you will do the initial set up, where you’ll pick the paper size, and where it connects to the home network. Once you connect your printer to your home Wi-Fi, you can really print from anywhere. Download the Smart Panel application on your phone to track your prints and always be the first to know when they are ready. This printer is very easy to use, it will feel familiar—especially if you’ve owned a printer in the past. It’s not intimidating. The scanner and copier live at the top of the printer (this is the part that you lift to change the ink). Below that, is the bright display screen and the power button, and underneath that is where the prints come out of. Finally, the paper slides from the bottom—there is even a section there for envelopes! This printer does it all, print, scan, copy, and fax—and do it all from the comfort of your home.
