Looking to the Future When Adobe gives us a look into what they have on the horizon, something they do far more often than another tech giant we can name, it’s usually in the form of enticing new features that its developers and researchers are working on, or product roadmaps that provide a big-picture view of the direction the company is taking. However these are very different times and current events will be prompting changes that will have a permanent impact on creative professionals and the industries they’re in for years to come. The forces behind this change are obvious: a global pandemic and a dramatic upsurge in domestic and worldwide cultural and social movements. Over the summer Adobe commissioned a survey of over 600 creative pros around the world to get their assessment of the impact and in September released the results. 87% of the creatives Adobe surveyed believe that 2020 will have lasting impacts on their business and nearly as many report that it will affect permanent changes on how they create. It’s not surprising that over half reported project cancellations and delays because of the pandemic and 87% agreed that most of their work will be done remotely through the end of the year. However, over 90% of those surveyed felt that this year’s events have inspired them to incorporate more real-world issues into their work. One change that this year’s events will bring is that the entire world is invited to Adobe MAX, running from October 20-22 and it’s free for all comers, just use your Adobe ID. Registration and event information can be found at adobe.com/max. After seeing what Adobe can do on a live stage, we can’t wait to see what their approach to a webinar will be. As challenging as these time are, it’s still possible that they can leave this world a better place, as we learn from our experience and see how important it is for us to all come together, albeit in a safely socially-distant way. Media creators will certainly come out of this with even more impact than before as more of our life moves online. These updates from Adobe are meant to help us in those endeavors. And there has never been a greater need of our talent, imagination, and artistry, nor has there been a time when has the potential for greater influence. For more information, visit: Adobe.com
