126 MacDirectory COMPANY PROFILE MACMALL > YOUR COMPLETE MAC SHOPPING RESOURCE MacMall sells Macintosh computers, Mac accessories, Mac software, iPods, iPod accessories and consumer electronics to consumers and businesses. MacMall is a brand of PC Mall, which has been in business since 1987. MacDirectory had the opportunity to speak with Daniel J. DeVries, Executive Vice President - Consumer. Mr. DeVries has served as an Executive Vice President – Marketing since February 1996. He is responsible for all aspects of the consumer business at PC Mall, including sales and marketing. Daniel DeVries > I would like to talk about MacMall; a subsidiary of PC Mall, Inc. MacMall is the largest direct seller of Apple products. So what that means is Apple obviously sells products online and in their stores but other than that, in terms of online space, MacMall sells more Apple products than anyone else. We are not really a retailer but we are a very, very large seller of Apple products. MacDirectory > Is MacMall strictly an online seller or do you also have a retail outlet? DD > We have sales reps so you can call us on the phone and we are open 24/7, 365 days a year so you can talk to us on the phone or online. MD > Do you have a physical store location? DD > We do have two physical store locations but this is not a big part of our business. We have two store locations in Southern California. MD > Looking at your MacMall Web site as I speak with you and I see that you have some sales going on. DD > By the time this article comes out our back to school sales with be over and we will be deep into our holiday sales and Black Friday sales and into our biggest season. MD > I see quite a spread of items on your Web site. DD > Right. We sell $300 million in Apple products a year. We sell an awful lot of Apple products and we have been selling Apple products since 1991. We've been doing this for a while now. MD > Do you all provide technical service for your customers? DD > Yes, we provide customer service and technical support. What we do basically is somebody can come to our Web site; we send out e-mails; send out catalogs; we advertise a number of places online; we do some newspaper advertising and magazine advertising, for instance MacDirectory. But kind of our claim to fame, because you know Apple and Best Buy are good businesses and places to buy, we try to offer that value out there but everybody says that. We feel that we offer a very good price on products. We do some things that other people probably don't do. We are experts at integrating into the Windows world, so in other words, although we all prefer to use Mac, in all reality there are a lot of people out there in the Windows world. So if you need to install a product like Parallels or Fusion to run Microsoft Windows at your work or home, we have an installation technician at our warehouse that will install it right on your machine before it ships out. So you will be all set to go with Windows. I have a MacBook Pro right here with Parallels on it. That's something we do a lot of. The other thing that we do – we sell a lot to consumers but we also sell a lot to small businesses so we are experts at being able to help people out on the business side. Again, we have people on the phones 24/7 and are prepared to handle technical questions as well as sales questions. Just give us a call at (800) MAC MALL (622-6255) and talk with a live person.
