This abbreviation is used by the seller to indi- cate that the item for sale is original with no upgrade, replacement parts, and so on. BHODemon > It is a guardian program for the Internet Explorer browser. It protects users from unknown Browser Helper Objects (BHOs), by letting you enable/disable them individually. CAYOR > On eBay, eBay alterna- tives, and classified ad Web sites, CAYOR is an abbreviation used to mean cash at your own risk. This abbreviation is used by the seller to indicate that if the buyer chooses to pay cash for the item, and mail cash to the seller, the buyer is not responsible for missing or lost payments. eBay Alternative > The term eBay alternative is used when des- cribing a non-eBay Web site that offers services similar to those of eBay, such as auction and fixed price listings and hosted storefronts, but is also used when descri- bing a marketplace that offers classified ads and other types of selling services. eBay Gallery Picture > The Gallery picture is a small thumbnail picture (at a standard size of 96 pixels) of the listed item that appears next to the item in eBay search results. Gallery is included automatically for listings that provide a picture. ECC > Error Correction Code is used to verify data transmissions by locating and correcting transmission errors. It is commonly used by RAM chips that include forward error correction (FEC), which ensures all the data being sent to and from the RAM is transmitted correctly.ECC memory is similar to parity RAM, which includes a parity bit that validates the data being sent. The parity bit is a redundant binary value of 1 or 0 that is sent along with the data. If the parity bit does not match the value of the data it represents, it indicates an error in the transmission and the data may need to be resent. ECC works in a similar way, but uses a more advanced error correction system that can correct data transmission errors on the fly. Eye-Fi > A wireless memory card that can be used in a digital camera, allowing the user to automatically upload your digital pictures to a wireless network. An Eye-Fi card works just like a regular SD Card (Secure Digital Card) in that it stores your pictures on the card, but the Eye-Fi card can be configured to upload the images automatically to a wireless network when it is within range and the camera is turned on. Hibernate > Windows computers now offer an option that combines the benefits of sleep mode and powering down the computer, called "Hibernate." When you select Hibernate, the computer saves the current state of the system from the computer's RAM to the hard disk, then shuts down. When the computer is restarted, instead of going through the typical boot sequence, the previously saved state is automatically loaded into the RAM. The open windows and running programs from your previous session appear just as they were when the computer entered Hibernate mode. Basically, Hibernate mode acts like Standby mode, except the computer can be completely turned off. 0FB > An abbreviation used to mean zero feedback. It is in reference to a new member on sales sites who has not completed any buying or selling transaction on the site. Single Instruction Single Data > (SISD). The way operations are performed in a serial computer, which has a single processor and executes one instruction at a time. Contrast MIMD and SIMD. Stripe > It is the process of distributing data across several storage devices to improve performance. Swag > A slang term used to describe free stuff and giveaways offered by vendors at trade shows to encourage attendees to visit their booth. It is usually company-branded merchandise and is given away as a form of advertising. Longhorn > A codename given to a Microsoft operating system while in its development and beta phases. The Long- horn codename is for the operating sys- tem that was released under the official name of Windows Vista on Jan. 30, 2007.
