Apple Watch SE To the uninitiated, an Apple Watch may sound like something of an extravagance to add to the back-to-school shopping list, but there are a whole host of reasons why this Apple wearable makes an ideal classroom companion for students from gradeschool on up. The “SE” designation of Apple’s $249 entry-level model could almost stand for “student edition.” It comes with a bunch of pre-installed apps that put things like a timer, stopwatch, and calculator (just to mention a few, on the wrist and, if desired, accessible on the watch face itself. The haptic alerts are perfectly silent, and the watch can be set to display message, mail, and phone notifications which can send a call to voicemail with a quick tap on the watch face. If you decide to opt for the cellular model that is $50 more (plus a carrier fee of around $10 per month), it can take the place of a cell phone. On its website, Apple even has instructions on how to best set up a watch for younger kids. The watch can be linked to and set up by a parent’s iPhone where features and apps can be controlled or entirely locked out. There is even a Schooltime feature in the watch’s setup that can limit access to certain features during specified hours through the school week. As with virtually all Apple devices, it can be set up with a Find My beacon so parents can know where their kids are. For more information, visit: apple.com/apple-watch-se Image courtesy of Apple
