A Better Deal in the Cloud We have always liked Blackmagic Design’s unique approach to cloud computing in video production. A lot of vendors rely on reselling cloud storage space packaged with their software services as a profit center (dare we say, “cash cow?”). For the rest of us, it becomes an expensive way to store things. Last year, when Blackmagic CEO Grant Petty first unveiled Blackmagic Cloud, he stressed that was meant to be a far mor equitable solution for small and mid-size shops. With it, the cloud (via Google Drive or Dropbox) serves only as a temporary waystation between remote shoots, studio, and post. The magic is in local, high-capacity, high-speed storage devices with the smarts to connect and transfer files up and down with little intervention. The svelte Blackmagic Cloud Store Mini with 8 TB onboard resides in a compact, go-anywhere package.
