Blackmagic Reveals New Pro Switchers By Ric Getter It could be that having their headquarters down-under (Melbourne) keeps prying ears and eyes at a distance or they don’t always wait until the hubbub of a major conference to make their announcements. But whatever the case, Blackmagic Designs has a way of unexpectedly dropping major new products and features before they get near any rumor mill. In the waning days of their summer (our February), they unveiled two new models of their midrange ATEM switchers and a new version studio camera that are sure spark some interest in a wider range of customers. All-In-One for More of Us Leading off the announcements are two new entries in the ATEM Television Studio lineup, the HD8 and HD8 ISO. Like the previous iteration of this popular midrange system, it features an all-in-one design, rather than being a rackmount unit. This makes for much a faster setup that requires less technical expertise. The HD8 features built-in streaming, an important feature for a lot of shops now in a hybrid post-pandemic world. There are four Ethernet ports on the rear panel. Video-wise, it can handle up to up to eight HD SDI sources.
