Get the Picture The original Blackmagic Studio Camera had a lot of potential with its unique, viewfinder-dominated design and affordable price. But with some inherent limitations, it didn't quite live up to it. The new Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro G2 ($2,495) is really the camera we’ve all been waiting for. With its lightweight polycarbonate body and 7" HDR display, it still packs a lot of capability into a light and slim profile, now with an EF as well as MFT lens mounts, it accepts some very decent broadcast servo-equipped lenses as well as those from popular still cameras (the comparatively low-cost route to a sharp and powerful telephoto zoom). Both the SDI video and 10G Ethernet I/O supports talkback, balanced audio, tally. The Ethernet connection also takes care of camera power. On top of that, it can be set up to stream directly to the internet and record Blackmagic RAW files to a connected USB drive. Another nice thing for those of us without Hollywood-level lighting budgets, you can crank the ISO all the way up to 25,600, close to if-you-can-see-it-you-can-shoot-it territory.
