Physically Fits Without diving into all the options and settings, the MX Master is ready to go right out of the box, which is good because once grabbing hold of it, it’s hard to let go. Everything about it feels just right, from the palm-hugging contours to the location and feel of the controls. The buttons are quiet, but the resistance firm enough to avoid inadvertent clicks, even after that second cappuccino. At the click of a small button, just behind it, the scroll wheel can switch from a very fast, free spinning mode, to a more sedate soft ratchet ideal when you’re working on something line-by-line. That button actually changes the feel of the scroll wheel, not just its behavior. Under your thumb are three sets of controls. On top is a multi-purpose scroll wheel great for doing things like zooming or horizontal scrolling. Below that are two long, low profile buttons. Another, named the Gesture button, which can be combined with a mouse-move to play multiple roles like switching desktops when you hold down and drag or engage Exposé with a click. It's seamlessly molded into the mouse body, and flexes when pressed. Finally, one truly remarkable and innovative feature that obviously never occurred the otherwise clever folks down in Apple Park the USB-C port is on the front. You can actually charge the mouse while you’re using it. What a concept!
