Premiere Pro’s speech to text is adding 13 supported languages, improved formatting for numbers and dates and the ability to export just the captions as a sidecar file. Adobe Sensei will help with basic housekeeping through the new Simplify Sequence option, cleaning up unused tracks, and more. Character Animator adds the one capability that we’ve all been waiting for: full-body tracking. Now you can do full stand-up and be something more than a talking head. Puppet Maker, a promised feature that allows talented artists and animators create puppets that are easy for non-artists to adopt and use, is now out in the program’s public beta. On the mobile side, Fresco upped its game with a toolset to create animations and grids and guides to help with perspective. A Class Act The best toolbox in the world won’t mean much if people can’t figure out how to use them. In its products, Adobe is constantly refining the user interface to make its products more intuitive and tactilely efficient, thanks in large part to its own UI design tool, Adobe XD. But even if, Matrix-like, Adobe could upload the operational expertise into our brains and we could become masters of Illustrator as quickly as Trinity could learn to fly a chopper, it still wouldn’t fully serve to connect our artistic visions with the new capabilities unleashed by the software. This, however, it what happens in the training sessions. This is one area where having MAX online has been a godsend. To reach its global audience, the sessions continue 24 hours a day for the three-day affair. There is no mad dash from one end of a convention center to the other between classes or the need to lock in your schedule weeks ahead to get a seat at the most popular classes. And nearly all the classes will remain online throughout the year, the only exception being the inspirational presentations by superstar creatives, and even their notable keynotes keep shining online for some weeks after. We’ll refrain from picking out a few of Adobe’s classes and labeling them as “the best of.” But we would like to highlight someone we consider one of Adobe’s best instructors. She has that rare combination of being an exceptionally talented artist, articulate and engaging communicator, and have the precious gift of knowing how to organize and present their knowledge in a way that makes her a great teacher.
