The Ultimate Editing Keyboard from Blackmagic By Ric Getter The change of seasons (to spring, for those lucky folks at Melbourne-based Blackmagic Design) brought several major announcements from the company. They led off with two new models of their unique, all-in-one Blackmagic Studio 4K cameras (HDMI and HDMI/SDI), both as easily affordable as they are portable. This was followed by the new Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2, a 6K powerhouse that is equally at home configured for the studio or ENG in the field. But equally notable was an announcement that didn’t involve any jaw-dropping hardware demos but could be a game-changer for those of us who deal with all that footage after it was shot: a dramatic price cut on Blackmagic Design’s pro-level control surfaces. What immediately caught our eye was the $400 reduction in their best-of-breed DaVinci Resolve Editor Keyboard that brought the price down to $595. And that includes a DaVinci Resolve Studio license valued at $295. That, in our opinion, brings the keyboard in range of a lot of editors who are not on a company payroll. Blackmagic was kind enough to loan us one for a test drive.
