with a standard 1/4” thread on the bottom for attaching to the included tripod (or any tripod, really). However, the camera can also be mounted directly atop your monitor even without the tripod. The mount relies on gravity and a small front lip, along with a triangular configuration of the mount to keep it in place—it’s more complicated to write about than just doing it. Long story short, it will sit just fine atop your monitor—though technically it doesn’t “clip on.” If your external monitor is too high, like mine, Paplook includes a small tripod to position the camera anywhere on your desk. It has fold out legs and a simple ball joint that lets you adjust the position and angle of the camera. As for lighting, it’s usually impossible to get right with my laptop’s webcam. I’m either in the witness protection program or blinded by the one ray of sunlight in the room. In addition to having way better exposure on the Paplook (and dealing with those aforementioned scenarios much better than my integrated webcam), the Papalook has a white light ring around the camera with three levels of brightness. This light ring is what a lot of aspiring Instagram, TikTok, and streaming stars use to take their pictures to the next level, so it’s a welcome addition on this webcam. A simple tap cycles through the three settings and no light at all. It’s not enough to light up a room or get model-worthy photographs out of, but it certainly helps shed some light on your face during your video calls and streams. Streamers will likely have their own microphones, which work great, but if you’re using the Papalook for business meetings or calls with your family, you’ll appreciate the built-in dual omni-directional microphones. This setup allows some noise isolation that should reduce the amount of background noise and echoes that participants on the other end of the call experience. I’m sad that I waited this long to set up the Papalook HD1080P Live Streaming Webcam. While I don’t have thousands of followers, my colleagues and family no doubt appreciate the improved quality of my video calls, and it’s given me more confidence in the otherwise hard-to-navigate world of non-stop video conferences.
