DIY Headphones TMA-2 Wireless Headphones by AIAIAI By Thomas Bender Modular any thing can sound like a gimmick, but when it comes from AIAIAI, these modular headphones might actually be more than the sum of their par ts. With almost 30 different components to customize across headbands, speakers, ear cups, and cords, AIAIAI allows audio enthusiasts to build their perfect set of cans, regardless of their use and preferences. And, lest we worry that the modularity is a marketing ploy, I'm here to say that the TMA-2 HD Wireless headphones from AIAIAI feel and sound really incredible! The TMA-2 HD Wireless Headphones, like other AIAIAI products, has a fairly unique look, regardless of which components you select. Ever y thing comes in matte black, with a plastic construction, and no flare or flourish. It's almost refreshing how utilitarian they are. The look also belies the overall quality of what you're getting—the design decisions have been made for function over form—and I kind of like that. The website is similarly on- brand. As with the headphones themselves, the website looks basic but is high functioning with great design—important for constructing your own set of headphones, or purchasing from a handful of pre-configured kits. Sound signatures, frequency responses, and a dynamic treble/ mid/bass char t will accompany all of your selections, with editorializing by the team at AIAIAI to make sure your selected components excel for the uses and sounds that you will experience the most. Upon arrival, each component of your headphones comes in its own sealed bag, clearly marked with a simple descriptor and letter/number combination to describe the component (for instance, the H05 headband is the wireless version while the H04 is the wired version). It's an unboxers dream. The TMA-2 HD Wireless headphones come with a new wireless headband, with a powerful 24 -bit DAC (digital-to- analog converter), and support for Apt X, Apt X HD, A AC, and SBC codecs.
