Nice Touch! Apple’s Magic Mouse is an elegant piece of hardware driven by some extraordinarily lame software. Apple apparently never discovered its true potential. The same could be said for its best-of-class trackpad technology and the MacBook Pro’s TouchBar. Luckily, Andreas Hegenberg (folivore.ai) did and created for us the magnificent BetterTouchTool. In essence BetterTouchTool can translate just about any gesture and tap a Magic Mouse or Mac trackpad can sense into a useful system operation, even string them together as macros. Though they don’t overwhelm, especially with the apps great new interface, Hegenberg has been piling on more and more features since the days of the Tool’s humble origins. It isn’t immediately obvious, but the clipboard manager, letting you access a copy-and-paste history, is worth having as an app in itself. Like Keyboard Maestro, BetterTouchTool has perpetuated a sizable community of contributors to its forum pages where you can not only get answers but download some great macros that people share. For $10 you get a license that includes two years of regular updates. $22 will provide you with updates for a lifetime.
