There were no long lines and none of the best sessions were too full to accommodate everyone. You could even get a virtual seat for Scott White’s and Jason Levine’s classes, which were normally booked up weeks or in advance. As great as nearly all the live training sessions were in previous years, the recordings seemed to be consistently better. There were obviously different levels of expertise in creating screencasts from the absolute masters to those who knew just enough to keep it simple and straightforward. Plus, every session started and ended exactly on time, with just enough space in between to click over to the next class. Once nice touch was having the webinars’ chat windows open before and during class. They were filled with a fast-moving flood of greetings from attendees from around the world. The sessions remain online at max.adobe.com and most will be up until next fall. Arguably, the greatest and likely most grateful beneficiaries of the online format were the best and brightest of Adobe’s engineers and scientist who are given a chance to show off their work at MAX Sneaks, the popular session where we get a look possible future products and features. For one thing, doing live demonstrations of highly experimental software carries more than a little risk; if it was rock-solid, it would already be in production. Secondly, most of these very talented people are far more at home in a lab at their computers than on stage in front of a huge hall filled to capacity with literally thousands of spectators. The presenters were noticeably more relaxed and demonstrations were always successful. If you nosed around the conference site a bit, you’d even discover the MAX gift shop where you could order your fill of Adobe swag (again without the long lines of the physical conference).
