Meater+ by Meater I love my Meater. As a guy with a minimal knack for cooking, but a high regard for following directions and always staring at my smartphone, it worked wonders. Like all meat thermometers, Meater takes the guesswork out of cooking the perfect cut. But unlike all meat thermometers, the Meater is built to withstand the duration of the cook and seamlessly integrate with your smartphone. To be fair, "seamlessly integrate" is a term tossed around too often, and I'm as guilty as anyone. However, one of the best parts about Meater is how quick and easy it loads the app, connects, and navigates you to your desired temperature. It's akin to the Shazam app—designed for a singular purpose, and it does it quickly and well (or rare, depending on your taste)! It's almost frustration-free, and even more important as I inevitably forget to grab the thermometer until the last minute. I say almost because the only downside to the original Meater is that it needs to maintain a Bluetooth connection with your phone, usually from inside a metal oven or grill. a.k.a. You can't take your phone very far from the kitchen. The Meater+ solves this only room for improvement, by using the charging base and holder as a Bluetooth relay point. And since that doesn't go in the oven, it now gives dad the freedom to roam 165 feet from the grill. He can pace around the whole yard with his phone and not worry about dropping that essential Meater connection! Here's the thing, that Meater base is already awesome, so adding a Bluetooth relay point put this thing over the top. It has a nice bamboo aesthetic, with built-in magnet for sticking to your fridge (this is where mine lives, and I'm not one to clad my fridge), a small battery indicator light, and even the battery compartment is sealed via a nice magnetic cover. Of course, I guess the thermometer is the real star. The minimalist stake goes right in your steak and provides three readings—ambient, target, and internal temp. These are clearly and logically displayed on your smartphone, with a calculated cook timer. The Meater+ even incorporates resting time into the calculator, which, let's be honest, is the difference between a bachelor and a dad. I wasn't exactly picky about my meat before, (aim for medium-rare and end up with something that is at least cooked) but using the Meater+ has just turned every piece into a juicy experience that tastes and feels better, without any second guessing. The Meater+ successfully takes all the awesome features of the original, and adds extended range, so whether the man in your life is looking for the latest scores, or just endlessly scrolling through Instagram while he watches Netflix on the couch, he'll never miss the perfect cook again.
