The Games Of course, PA X is about the games, and there were plenty of those to be seen and experienced. The breadth and depth of gaming experiences was even more evident this year, as some of the bigger studios chose not to at tend, leaving room for smaller teams to really shine. There was also a dramatic decrease in Virtual Reality demos, which are time and space -intensive, allowing for more and more games to be packed onto the show floor. You could read a dozen different articles about PAX East 2020 and not see the same game twice, but here are a few that caught our eye at MacDirectory. Nanotale Typing Chronicles www.nanotalegame.com This typing game is not a typing game! Or should I say, its intent isn't to teach typing. Nanotale Typing Chronicles is designed to utilize a mechanic that most gamers don't engage with as a method of play—typing. Typing words on your keyboard executes the actions that you'd typically be clicking on, using a skill key for, or digging into your inventor y. And while the developers insist that it's not an educational game, I certainly learned a lot of new words even during my short demo; context- sensitive words are used depending on the action, so discovering a new species of mushroom may require you to type words that describe the mushroom while at tacking enemies has you racing to accurately type out combat words or negative words that paint a vile picture of your at tackers. Somehow, even though typing is a skill just like using a controller or mouse, it seems infinitely more possible to mess up, even for the fastest and most accurate typists among us! The presentation brings Nanotale Typing Chronicles together in a beautiful package, with an approachable watercolor forest nymph vibe that is hard to turn away from. For this gamer who has been around the block and played or tested a ton of games, it was genuinely refreshing to play in a new way, and I had to be torn away from the demo long after my appointment had passed. Oh, and Nanotale supports 11 different languages— educational or not , I 'm learning something. LiftoffDrone Racing www.liftoff-game.com From fantastical typing games to hardcore simulators— I told you PAX offered a wide variety of experiences! Astragon Entertainment has made a name publishing a variety of simulators as the genre has exploded over the last several years. This year on the show floor they brought Liftoff Drone Racing, a title that has been on PC for a few years but is making its way to consoles later this year. As the name implies, Liftoff has you piloting a quadrotor drone, racing around exotic
