Spotify on Apple Devices May Soon Gain These New Siri Tricks By Mike Peterson Spotify is currently beta testing support for Siri voice commands, something that was rumored earlier this year. That means that users may be able to ask Siri to play songs, albums and playlists from Spotify in the next version of the app. It also means that you can sign up to try out those new features early. Spotify Siri Support In iOS 13 and iPadOS, Apple opened up SiriKit to music, podcast, radio and audiobook apps. Essentially, that means developers can now incorporate Siri voice support into their apps. That was only one part of the equation. It was still largely up to Spotify to actually implement Siri voice support, something that seemed doubtful based on the dustup between the firm and Apple. But back in August, reports suggested that Apple and Spotify were discussing calling a "truce." It looks like the companies worked it out, at least as far as Siri voice commands go. In the latest beta version of Spotify, users are now able to ask the Apple digital assistant to play content from the streaming platform, The Verge reported. As noted earlier, users are able to ask Siri to play songs, albums and playlists from the streaming platform. It's worth noting that you'll need to specif y that you want content played from Spotify — such as saying "Hey Siri, play Today's Top Hits from Spotify." Other wise, the digital assistant will default to Apple Music. The feature is currently in beta. That could mean that it'll end up in the next app update for Spotify on iOS. Of course, there's no guarantee that that'll be the case. Can You Sign up for Spotify Betas? Like with many tech plat forms, you can actually sign up to be a beta tester for Spotify. That means you'll be able to preview new app features before they roll out to everyone else. Of course, Spotify beta testing isn't going to be quite the same as Apple beta testing. Spotify even notes that, "in most cases," beta versions don't contain any new features. And, unlike Apple's program, Spotify's iOS beta testing space is limited. Unfortunately, it appears to be full as of the time of writing.
