122 MacDirectory PROFILE LC TECHNOLOGY > ALWAYS GEARED TOWARD RECOVERY Founded in 1997 in Clearwater, Fla., LC Technology has software as its primary product line. PC-based PHOTORECOVERY, FILERECOVERY for Windows, and FILERECOVERY Professional are uniquely qualified products that recover data and files in the event of data loss or hard drive failure. The Forensic Utility Suite is the first-of- its-kind allowing forensic and computer crime professionals to effectively recover data on all Microsoft operating systems. The suite is a compilation of FILERECOVERY for Windows, FILERECOVERY Professional and PHOTORECOVERY for Digital Media. For the first time a total solution is available for all Microsoft file systems, allowing for fast, safe and reliable file recovery with the ease-of-use of the Windows environment. Intelli-SMART is based on industry standard SMART technology. A disk drive can be monitored in time for errors that indicate immanent failure. The software can then notify the user of a problem via e-mail, pop-up or by playing a sound. LC Technology also has a hardware product line. DRAC (Data Recovery and Analysis Computer) was engineered to make the investigation and recovery of "digital artifacts" as fast and straightforward as possible. The Drive Imaging Stations are external solutions featuring fast, read-only hot swap bay and a read-write, hot swap, removable bay in a stand-alone configuration. The Read-Only IDE Drive Bays are designed for the ultimate in Firewire speed. Plus, the cards and adaptors will allow users to employ any first or second generation 1394 device in a system with free PCI Slot. A majority of LC clients are IT specialists, consultants and technicians, law enforcement personnel at all levels, corrections officers, prosecutors and corporate security specialists. However, LC also supports the individual end-user with the same quality of care and attention. LC Technology is a global supplier with distributors and resellers all over the world, including throughout Europe and Asia. Products are available in more than 20 languages. WORDS BY MARY ROSENTHOL PROMISE TECHNOLOGY > A LEADER IN THE STORAGE INDUSTRY Promise Technology is a global leader in the storage industry and an innovator in sophisticated RAID technology for enterprise and SMB customers. Promise Technology offers a complete line of RAID controller cards and SAS/SATA RAID subsystems. The comprehensive product base includes high available (HA) standalone RAID subsystems with standards-based management interfaces, host-based (internal) RAID controllers, NAS appliances for SOHO, and SATA ASICs integrated into an extensive list of industry leading motherboards. Promise Technology is located in Milpitas, Calif., with offices and operations throughout Asia and Europe. MacDirectory spoke with senior marketing director Keith Parker: KP > Our core technologies are RAID storage subsystems and particularly on the Mac side of it. One of our key products is our VTrak external storage, which is a high-performance, external storage subsystem and was selected by Apple as the only qualified external storage system for the Xsan 2 and Final Cut Pro environments. This has been out specifically for the Mac environment a little over a year but it is the same base subsystem we have been shipping in to the Windows and Linux environments for a couple of years. People really like its reliability, its quality, and its performance. We've gotten a number of significantly popular reviews on it. MD > What makes Promise such a leader in its field? KP > Over 20 years of RAID experience with over 15 million instances in use. At the heart of the Promise solution is a single common RAID engine. The RAID engine is the central technology that controls how a storage device sees a set of hard drives and stores, retrieves and protects the data on them. Whether it's an enterprise class RAID subsystem or a desktop controller, you can be assured that it is powered by the same proven engine that drives data centers around the world.
