APPLE ACTIVATES 'SINGLE SIGN-ON' By Mike Peterson Apple Finally Activates ‘Single Sign-On’ to Streamline Your tvOS and iOS Viewing Experience Apple is making it easier to use your Apple TV as a replacement for your cable box, according to a new report. Cupertino has quietly activated a feature in iOS 10.2 and tvOS 10.1 that will allow users to authenticate multiple streaming apps and services with a single login, streamlining the content viewing experience. The company first announced the feature, called Single Sign-On, back in June, but Apple has reportedly turned on the feature for beta testers for the latest iOS and tvOS versions, according to Engadget. Single Sign-On works by acting as a universal login across multiple apps. You just have to enter the username and password you use with your TV provider once, and the feature will automatically log in to additional apps. That’s an incredibly useful feature that could save Apple TV users from having to sign in dozens of different TV apps individually. Currently, the feature only supports a handful of content providers: Dish, GVTC Communications, Hotwire and Sling TV — but more companies are likely to be added in the future. Its functionality isn’t just limited to the Apple TV, either — iPhone and iPad users have reported Single Sign-On being available in the iOS 10.2 public beta. In addition to streamlining the login process, Single Sign-On will also collate and help you find out which iOS and tvOS apps can be authenticated with your cable credentials — saving you from having to hunt down the correct corresponding apps one-by-one. While Single Sign-On was originally planned to launch with tvOS 10, the feature hasn’t been available for beta testers until today, according to AppleInsider. It’s not currently known when the feature will see a general rollout, but its quiet addition in new operating systems suggests that it’ll be widely available in the near future. http://www.idropnews.com https://www.facebook.com/idropnews
