The Astrid > Your Winter Fashion Statement By Claudia Paredes When you live in New England, a jacket becomes more than just another piece of clothing. It’s a necessity, and will become be the most worn item in your closet. So why not invest in a jacket that will last you a lifetime? In our last edition, we featured the Jersey Collection by nobis, and learned that by combining fashion and function, nobis is making outerwear that not only withstands the test of time, but also harsh weather conditions. In this edition, we are exploring their Core Collection. The Core Collection offers a wide range of jackets—from midweight, to heavyweight, to extreme. Designed for all weather condition, these jackets will keep you nice and toasty all season long—no matter where you are. I had the opportunity to personally review the Astrid, which has become my go-to jacket this winter. Living in New England, weather can be unpredictable. It’s wet in the morning, the sun comes out in the afternoon, and by the evening it’s very cold. I need a jacket that can react to all weather conditions—that is where the Astrid comes in. The Astrid uses Premium Canadian Origin White Duck Down for ultimate warmth. You will be able to tell as soon as you pick it up—this jacket is heavy-duty and ready for low temperatures. It is one of the longer pieces of the collection, and depending on how tall you are, most likely this jacket will fall right around the knees. I really appreciated its length, as it provides maximum protection from the cold. Other features that make this jacket suited for low temperatures are the heavy elastic rib cuffs with thumbhole openings, which will keep your hands warm and not allow any cold breeze to enter. Along the same lines, the interior lining comes with a lightly down filled wind skirt with a Velcro closure that blocks any wind from reaching your upper body. Overall, I real liked how form fitting the Astrid was. Most winter jackets forget women’s figure, and solemnly concentrate on designing jackets that are warm (and huge). The Astrid keeps in mind the natural curves of a woman, and even added a buckle belt at the waist. It’s highly fashionable, luxurious, and extremely warm—you won’t need to layer with the Astrid. It has great mobility and comes with a couple drawstring toggle systems throughout that allow the Astrid to fit you the way you prefer. The Astrid’s fit is fantastic, and the design does not fall short. The Astrid was inspired by the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood, and this is evident by the oversized down filled hood that distinguishes this jacket from the rest of the collection. The hood can drape over the face, or if you wish, use the double drawstring toggle system to have it tightly wrap around the contour of your face for extra warmth and a perfect snug fit. This jacket is filled with features, from the outside to the inside, the construction of the Astrid is flawless. The crosshatch shell, not only makes the Astrid windproof and waterproof, but it also makes it highly breathable—which is very important if you are commuting with this jacket. Another feature that makes the Astrid breathable are the pit zip vents, which are concealed and very easy to operate. One of my favorite signature features by nobis are the magnetic closures, which we came across in the Jersey Collection. It’s a great way to eliminate Velcro, which can quickly deteriorate the outer shell of any jacket. The Astrid has magnetic closures that run down the front flap, and automatically will magnetize as soon as the you zip up. The Astrid, thanks to the nobis team, does a phenomenal job keeping harsh weather conditions from reaching your body. I assure you, this is the jacket that you need to stay stylish and cozy.
