MacDirectory is proud to showcase Claire McAdams, a
graduate of Southwestern University with a BFA in Musical
Theatre and special passion for photography. MacDirectory's
Publisher Markin Abras, chatted with Claire to further
understand the challenges of underwater photography.
Markin Abras: What made you interested in developing the
underwater shoot?
Claire McAdams: I started dabbling in photography and
creative portraiture nine years ago and from the beginning
I was irresistibly drawn to water. The way it moves, splashes,
and catches light never failed to turn a simple portrait
into a dynamic image with a story to tell. While searching
for inspiration, I was left speechless when I stumbled
across work by underwater photographers Zena Holloway,
Scott Rhea, and Mallory Morrison. They harness the
weightlessness, unique lighting, and alien settings found
underwater to create photographs that transport the viewer
to fantastic new worlds. To say I was inspired would be a
massive understatement. From that moment, I knew I needed
to invest in equipment necessary to give it a try.
