MacDirectory 63 CONTENTS DEPARTMENT MacDirectory 63 3. It works as a wireless media transmitter to other computers, tablets and smartphones -- providing them all with an extra 2TB of storage 4. It has a slot to automatically download (and erase if desired) SD cards. Suppose you're a photographer on a shoot and you need to check some photos you've already downloaded a couple of hours ago. Just turn on your iPad or Android tablet and My Passport Wireless will transmit those images back to you. You don't need any other wireless connection -- the Passport has it all. It does all of this simply and automatically. Everything just works. Last year, you couldn't connect to products like this without disrupting your internet access. This year all those problems have been solved. It has reasonable battery life, letting you dish up media and data wherever you go. For 2015, Western Digital's EX2100/4100 and My Passport Wireless are our favorite storage products. We are in awe of the software and hardware engineers who came together to 'just make these products work.' In Praise of 2.5k monitors -- and Viewsonic 2.5k monitors (usually QHD at 2560x1440) are very comfortable to work with over a wide range of hardware and operating systems. On a 27-inch screen, they are increasingly affordable and will work comfortably with a wide range of apps and OS's, unlike 4K and 5K monitors. One of our favorites in this class is Viewsonic's VP2772. Factory pre-calibrated for accurate color, this screen is equally at home on OS X or Windows, though its default sharpness setting has to be reduced for OS X. Thanks to IPS, viewing angles are very wide. We like Viewsonic's recipe for combining good technology and solid build quality with affordable prices. Viewsonic products usually mark a golden mean: if an equivalent product is cheaper from another manufacturers (say, a 27-inch QHD screen) then there is usually an unacceptable quality issue with the cheaper manufacturer's product. And if you want to get something better than Viewsonic, you usually have to spend twice as much. We have relied on Viewsonic for a lot of years, and we are happy to award this product. The most fabulously odd product of 2015 Check out: http://www.usbtypewriter.com which proudly bills itself as "A GROUNDBREAKING ADVANCEMENT IN THE FIELD OF OBSOLESCENCE!" We concur. REVIEW
