KENNEDY SPACE CENTER
THE DREAM DESTINATION
FOR ANYONE WHO HAS
BEEN FASCINATED BY
SPACEFLIGHT
On the evening of July 21, 2011, the Atlantis
touched down on the 2.8-mile runway at Florida's
Kennedy Space Center, ending the final mission of
the Shuttle program. It was hard to believe that the
small fleet, so long representing one of mankind's
greatest technological achievements would become,
essentially, museum pieces. It seemed like the era
human spaceflight, its fifty-year history short enough
to be in the living memory of a generation of baby
boomers, was drawing to a close.
