coLuMn What if the fountain of youth wasn't a myth? I'm sure we would all be forming a line, right now. Technology, medicine, and science have all come a long way, and made it possible to keep our skin from aging with simple treatments. No, it's no fountain of youth, but we sure are getting close! First we need to understand why our skin ages in order to slow down the process. You also need to know what treatment is right for your unique skin type. No need for fancy, complicated, risky surgeries, all you need to know is which facial treatments actually show results. In the end, it's results that matter. There are thousands of treatments that will claim to improve your skin tone and promise younger looking skin. But after months of testing, there were only a few that stood out. I never knew that our skin was so affected by the environment, and that an effective treatment will focus on fighting against the formation of free radicals in our skin, which is what makes us age. See, the reason why our cells age is because they accumulate free radical damage overtime. But what are these free radicals, where do they come from, and why do they affect our skin so much? It's suggested that UV light induces free radical formation in skin, which leads to photoaging. Which is why protecting from the sun, and applying sunscreen is so important. In a nutshell, free radicals are atoms or molecules containing unpaired electrons, which will go around seeking to get paired (they often takes an electron from a neighboring molecule) and will cause an imbalance and possibly cross-linking between fat and protein molecules, which leads to wrinkles. Now that we know where our wrinkles are coming from, we need to know how to reduce free radicals from happening. Antioxidants help reduce and prevent damage from free radical reactions. Remember how free radicals where looking for an electron? Well antioxidants (ex: vitamin A, C, E) will donate one and neutralize the radical without forming another. The more antioxidants, the more you will decrease the number of free radicals responsible for aging. The following products successfully combined the power of science with age defining ingredients to noticeably improve fine lines and firmness of the skin. C E Ferulic by skinceuticals was one that showed promising results. The science is simple, right; the antioxidants neutralize free radicals induced by UVA and UVB, which cause accelerated signs of aging. C E Ferulic is a powerful antioxidant that will fight against damaging UV rays, and because once the skin absorbs it the serum can't be washed or rubbed off, that means that it will remain effective for a minimum of 72 hours. All the ingredients packed inside this little bottle double the photoprotective power to eight times the skin's natural protection. Within a couple weeks you will see that your skin looks younger and healthier with better laxity and reduced redness. Prevent visible signs of aging, simply 4-5 drops to the face, neck, and chest area daily. skinceuticals.com Key Ingredients: 15% L-ascorbic acid, 1% alpha tocopherol, and 0.5% ferulic acid. + iHealth By CLAudIA PArEdES The Science Behind Younger Looking Skin Advances in science will help your skin stay young and healthy for longer.
