MacDirectory 87 feature APPLE CHAngES THE worLd (AgAIn) Watch this Having covered all the basics of the new iPhones in a single fast-paced, tightly scripted hour, Tim Cook offered his predecessor a well-deserved hommage. The One More Thing, of course, was the Apple Watch. What Cook called, "the next chapter of Apple's Story" was introduced by a video. A series of dramatic close- ups of sculptured metal and Sapphire glass slowly reveal the one thing we never expected to see in a smart watch: a crown. The screen senses not only touch but also force, adding a new interface opportunity. The Retina display lets the watch face look to the world like anything we choose (yes, even an animated Mickey Mouse). The watch can also privately speak to us with a silent haptic (tactile) feedback system, not a new technology but the Apple Watch promises some very interesting new twists. As the many rumors predicted, the Apple Watch can monitor your health better than most doctors as well as serving as the one fitness coach you can never lie to, integrating with a wealth of apps both on the watch and your iPhone. the return of Wow Somewhere in the middle of the forty-five minute demo, it stared becoming apparent that the Apple Watch could be the most feature-rich product the company has ever introduced. There are and will be many smart watches. Apple, however, has designed the first truly brilliant one. Though not shipping until early 2015, the watch is bound to spoil the holiday shopping season for many of Apple's competitors. Though we all thought we knew what was coming, Apple hasn't lost its talent for creating a reality that is somehow always greater than our expectations.
