The Basis of Everything: Font Creation and Editing
Reading is more important to us today as we interact less by voice and more by text. Yet reading as we know it cannot exist without fonts. Approximately a million nominally different fonts are available for download. Of those, probably only 5,000 are worth using. The leading software to create and edit fonts has been Fontlab for many years. It is responsible for nearly all of the good fonts we use (and most of the bad ones we don't use). Just released, version 8 offers a huge number of truly innovative new features that will advance what fonts can do for us in the coming years. Text production -- either on screen or on paper -- will become better as font designers learn how to utilize these new tools. Fontlab 8 is one of the great pieces of professional software. We are happy to award it.
