The M1 Effect Along with the inclusion of Frame.io, After Effects now includes native support for Apple’s M1, doubling its speed on most hardware compared to Intel silicon and tripling it for those running on an M1 Ultra. This really screams when you take advantage of Multi-Frame Rendering introduced last year. Another useful trick it learned from Premiere Pro is Scene Edit Detection, making it easy for motion designers to work with footage that has already been edited. This is a Sensei AI trick that also takes advantage of M1 native code. Binning Indicators are a new interface element introduced in this release. Though they don’t add any new functionality, they will show you which 3D layers have been grouped and how they’ll be affected by light and shadow sources. The new Extended Viewer will make it easier to see and work with 3D elements waiting in the wings off the screen. Though commonly the choice of pros, Adobe continues to make After Effects more approachable for those of us who need to move just beyond Premiere.
