And More… Along with the new collaboration tools, DaVinci Resolve 18, now in public beta, hosts a number of significant improvements, including new AI-powered tools in Color that find, select, and track foreground objects so the background and foreground can have separate grades. Fusion now can detect the warp and weft of a surface and matt a graphic over it. And, taking advantage of regular performance improvements, multicam editing can now display up to 25-source in a 5x5 preview grid. Resolve adds a feature where you can worth with subtitles with their own track on the Timeline. Captioning includes support for TTML and XML sources. Fairlight’s Flexbus allows project created with fixed audio busses to covert to Flexbus with a mouse-click. All three ATEM HD switchers have been upgraded to an extent that they deserve a new name, Constellation. They also benefit from the new 5x5 multiview display and, among other improvements have a more robust digital video effects. At moments like this, it can be easy to forget that Blackmagic Design, like Apple, is primarily a hardware company. That hardware, however, depends on ingenious, superbly designed software. DaVinci Resolve with all the basics you need is and will remain a free download. For more features, the professional-level Resolve Studio is still just $299 for a perpetual license.
