Since Renderosity announced its acquisition of Poser Software in June 2019, I am sure some of you have been wondering why and what's next. To answer those questions, we sat down with Tim Choate, CEO of Bondware, to talk about the acquisition and his plans for the future of Poser. What's your history with Poser? About 20 years ago, I ran a company called Edgenet in Nashville. We were one of the first ISPs in Tennessee and evolved into a software company. Our first commercial software product was called Bondware, which was web-based software for building online communities with members, news, forums, marketplaces, etc. Our lead developer working on this product was Roy Riggs, also known as "Fur" in the Renderosity world. Roy was involved a lot with Poser as a hobby (he developed "Mapping Magician" and "PHI Builder"). He suggested that we could test Bondware by setting up an online site for a group of like-minded people on the Internet who were all interested in this 3D software called Poser. This became first PoserForum.com and eventually Renderosity. I acquired Renderosity along with Bondware as part of a spin-off from Edgenet in 2001. Bondware Inc. has operated Renderosity ever since and continues to develop Bondware and related web-based software. There is something symmetrical and appropriate about the fact that Roy Riggs is now part of the development team that is working flat out to transition the Poser software and set the stage for great things in the future.
