Getting used to the Cut page was a lot like my experience with Resolve as a whole. LFor me, learning how to use a new tool to do an old job always begins with a period of frustration and confusion. In the old days, it was something I had to do. But now that editing has come to the desktop, it’s easy to content myself with sticking with what I know and sussing-out the new features as they appear. But with the Resolve suite of tools, I quickly saw that this would be a way to work not only faster and easier overall, but would also let me achieve that speed while working with greater precision. I’m now in a phase where I’m using both editors, working on simpler projects in Resolve but going back to my previous software if I don’t have the time to figure out how to do the complex stuff in Resolve, though I know that it has a better way. We’re going to see more of that “better way” in Part 2, when we’ll look into the Hollywood way of working with color grading, effects, and audio and learn what it’s like to go nodal. (It’s not as scary as it looks. Really.) For more information, visit: www.blackmagicdesign.com.
