Since then, a lot has changed. We no longer draw or engrave our visions on the cave walls, we make them visible using digital algorithms. These days, we are surrounded by many graphic programs that are trying to portray our visions. It seems like many of them forget that initial magical feeling when a tiny piece of the drawing material meets the firm surface and breaks. The moment, when the real creative adventure begins! Fortunately, not all graphic software is the same. Rebelle from Escape Motions is known for its different approaches to digital creativity. Its watercolor tool, which we were describing in the previous issue, has gained, in my opinion justifiably, many international awards. In the latest version, the creators introduce new possibilities for dry media as well. Let’s start with a Pencil tool. New pencils are covering the whole scale of hardness and are supplemented with pencils, that were used by craftsmen in the past. We can also find new charcoals of different shapes. The dry media brush selection might be pleasantly surprising, among others, there are realistic dust presets or brushes with an impression of linocut. Pastels are looking more realistically as well, with possibilities to being very soft or quite firm. This allows covering the whole scale of techniques. Furthermore, you can easily experiment with different wet and dry media while mixing them on the same layer. The trace of dry media is created in a unique way. It combines multiple shapes and grains. While drawing, the artist can encounter the moments when a piece of charcoal breaks and the charcoal dust enlivens the stroke. To create different behavior or new tools in the application, there is a Brush Creator ready to be used. If you are missing a pencil, charcoal, or pastel, you can easily create your own! Rebelle is intensively using the drawing possibilities that the stylus brings. The character of each line changes based on the pressure applied. There are several new ways to create better lines.
