Rescue Your Type 1 Fonts Words by FontLab Way back in 2019 Adobe announced that it was ending support for Type 1 fonts in Photoshop in 2021. Now it appears that support for Type 1 in all their other apps will disappear by January 2023. Many browsers, operating systems and apps already do not support Type 1 anymore and it seems likely that the trend will continue. The handwriting is on the wall. The Type 1 font format is dead. Many of you, however, may have legacy documents that depend on Type 1 fonts or have libraries of Type 1 fonts in which you have a large investment and continue to use. By next year these will all be obsolete unless you do something about it. You could go out and buy new OpenType fonts to replace the Type 1 fonts, but that might be an expensive proposition. You can also check to see if the font manufacturer offers upgrades from Type 1 to OT, but these seem to be few and far between.
