FEATURE
Blackmagic Design's new
update adds visual effects
(VFX) and motion graphics
to DaVinci Resolve, along
with hundreds of new
audio, editing and color
grading features.
DaVinci Resolve has long
been one of Hollywood's go-to
tools for post production,
being used on everything from
large blockbusters, such as
"Wonder Woman" and "Girls
Trip," to hit indie films, such
as "The Big Sick" and "Three
Billboards Outside Ebbing,
Missouri."
Now, the latest version of
DaVinci Resolve 15 integrates
Fusion, making it the world's
first solution to combine
editing, color correction, audio
post production, and now VFX
and motion graphics in one
software tool. By integrating
Fusion, DaVinci Resolve
15 gives users a true 3D
workspace with more than
250 tools for compositing,
vector paint, particles, keying,
rotoscoping, text animation,
tracking, stabilization, and
more. Additionally, DaVinci
Resolve 15 also includes
a major update to Fairlight
audio, along with more
than 100 new features and
improvements for editing
and color grading, such as a
LUT browser, expanded HDR
support, stacked timelines,
subtitle and closed captioning
tools, and new multi-user
collaboration tools.
With a track record of more
than 30 years, Fusion is
one of Hollywood's leading
VFX tools. The software has
made its mark on hit films
and television shows, such
as "Red Sparrow," "The Last
Movie Star," "Broken," "Teen
Wolf" and "Jane the Virgin."
Now, it's built into DaVinci
Resolve 15, giving users a
new Fusion page for feature
film quality VFX and motion
graphics animation.
Fusion
Using DaVinci Resolve 15,
users simply select a clip
in the timeline on DaVinci
Resolve 15's Edit page and
then click on the Fusion page
to add VFX or motion graphics
using Fusion's dedicated
node-based interface.
Compositions created in the
standalone version of Fusion
can also be copied and
pasted into DaVinci Resolve
15 projects.
DaVinci Resolve 15 also adds
support for Apple Metal,
multiple GPUs and CUDA
acceleration, making Fusion
in DaVinci Resolve faster than
ever.
Adding Fusion to DaVinci
Resolve will be completed over
the next 12-18 months. Users
can get started using DaVinci
Resolve 15's Fusion page
today, and the standalone
version of Fusion will also
continue to be available for
users who need it.
Fairlight
DaVinci Resolve 15 also
includes a huge update to
its audio post production
features. The Fairlight
audio page now includes a
complete ADR toolset, static
and variable audio retiming
with pitch correction, audio
normalization, 3D panners,
audio and video scrollers, a
fixed playhead with scrolling
