REVIEW
The Mission in San Francisco has
come a long way in the last twenty
years, and the Mission Workshop has
been growing right alongside it—or
within it, so to speak. Based out of a
repurposed warehouse in the Mission
district of San Francisco, Mission
Workshop has evolved to offer a whole
suite of apparel, accessories, camera
bags, and yes, a lot of great bags for
cyclists and enthusiasts alike.
Their new spring jacket, the Shop
Jacket, is particularly striking, and I had
the opportunity to pair it with another
Mission Workshop best seller, The
Hayes: LS. Both pieces exceeded their
online pictures and descriptions, and
their design and quality merit the price
point.
The Hayes is described as a "high-
performance button-up shirt" and
so far it seems to live up to the lofty
summary. The Hayes is easy to
differentiate by touch alone. Removing
it from the shipping box, the material
feels soft, durable, and firm. This is the
feel of Mission Workshop's ultra-high-
performance textile they have dubbed
37.5®.
In a world of "moisture wicking" fabrics,
the goal of 37.5® is not to wick, but to
prevent liquid sweat in the first place.
Based on properties of Japanese
volcanic rocks, 37.5® actively suctions
vapor away from the skin, before it
becomes sweat. It also promises to
isolate odor molecules, and does it all
without chemical finishes.
In addition to the space age textile, The
Hayes features long sleeves, a very
tailored cut, and a length that is suitable
for wearing tucked or untucked. It's
a very versatile shirt (especially when
paired with the Shop Jacket) that is
suitable for most seasons. It's side entry
front pocket adds a nice trademark
style point, and its small batch,
American-made, 60/40 cotton/poly
blend production is easy to support.
The Shop Jacket, a new item for the
spring, does not share the same fabric
as the shirt, but it does share the same
high-end features and incredible feel.
