Smarter Text, um…, Editing Adobe Premiere Pro debuted text-based editing last May and it continues its rapid development, maintaining its lead as the best video tool for editing dialog. For those who haven’t tried it yet, with Premiere’s text-based editing, the program creates a transcription of the dialog in your media assets in the timeline (no internet connection is needed for this) and then lets you edit and arrange the transcription as text with the results flowing automatically into the timeline. This feature now supports 18 different languages and multi-channel audio. The latest trick is the ability to recognize cut out “filler” words like “ah” and “um,” replacing them with pauses of a predetermined length. These are represented as ellipses (…) in the transcription. These, of course, will still show up as jump cuts that you’ll need to cover with some sort of cutaway.
