Family Tree DNA Test Kits Over the last few years, DNA tests have become incredibly popular. You might have heard stories from your grandparents about where your family came from, but it’s incredible to see it detailed on a map. This is the perfect gift for the curious dad, or the new grad obsessed with genealogy. The testing method is simple. Once the kit is ordered simply register your kit and create an account online—this is where the results will be sent. Then swab the inside of each cheek, mail it back, and received your results online in 4 to 8 weeks. There are currently four different types of tests available, Paternal Ancestry, Family Ancestry, Family Ancestry + myDNA Wellness, and Maternal Ancestry. Each test is unique, for example, if you are interested in learning more about your mother’s side of the family, then the Maternal Ancestry test is the one to use, and if you’re interested in learning about your father’s side, then the Paternal test is the adequate one. What’s great about these tests is that each can go back hundreds of years and trace your lineage all the way back to Adam and Eve. While the Family Ancestry test doesn’t go quite that far, it does test both sides and creates a breakdown of where in the world your ancestors came from. Family Tree DNA not only shows you your genealogy map, but it also shows you a list of people, who have also taken the test, who share a high percentage of the same DNA. If you don’t know much about your family, this is a great place to start. You can reach out to each person and learn how you are related. It’s a fun way to expand your family tree in directions you never expected. For more information, visit: www.familytreedna.com
