Part of the credit for the sound quality goes to the Audeze CIPHER connections. This extension of the monitors themselves is an innovative idea that takes these IEMs to the next level. As mentioned earlier, the LCDi3’s actually connect to your music source via one of three included cables. Both the Lightning Cable and the Bluetooth 5.0 cable options include Audeze’s proprietary digital signal processor (DSP) that has been designed and developed specifically for Audeze products, so you know you are getting the very best you can out of these monitors. It’s like EQ on super steroids. These cables seriously make the LCDi3’s one of the best listening options for audiophiles with iPhones. A 3.5mm cable connection is also provided, but that doesn’t benefit from the CIPHER technology—you’re much better off using the Bluetooth cable in that situation. The units themselves are a black and metal design. There is a small Audeze logo on each monitor, as well as a subtle grill design that creates the “A” logo if you look just right (somewhat of an homage to their larger over-ear designs). The LCDi3’s are “big” for in-ear-monitors, but that is why Audeze has provided curved ear hooks and fins to help with the fit. They are also considerably lighter than they appear at first glance. Are they bigger than Airpods? Yes. Are they uncomfortable? No. Do they sound a million times better? Yes. You might think you look like a human Tie Fighter, but you don’t. The LCDi3’s don’t stick out from your ear as much as you might think, and the drivers and diaphragm are pretty thin, all things considered. It’s a small price to pay for the listening experience that you get. The LCDi3’s are an amazing product. Innovation, flexibility, and high-quality audio reproduction in a single package. So many different components come together—the planar magnetics, the open back design, the in-line DAC, the swappable cords—to make this a really compelling package. Especially if you want a portable high-end listening experience, without the bulk or liability of carrying around a big expensive case for your flagship over-the-ear headphones, the LCDi3’s are ideal.
