I was very fortunate because my first viewer was very kind and asked if I had a regular schedule. That's when I learned that you have to have a regular schedule, so people know when to find you. (laughs) After a while, more and more people joined in and one thing led to another and, eventually, I put so much effort into it that it became a huge part of my life. From that point on, I did not have time or energy to look at other projects as all of my attention was focused on my community of viewers. Q. Was showing your face on camera and talking to an audience difficult for you? Oh yes. The feeling of having to talk when there is no one in the chat is quite strange. There was also a day, when something was wrong with my streaming app and I couldn't go online. I nearly had a panic attack and had to breathe into a bag. (laughs) There were only six people in my chat, but I was so stressed out about them having to wait for me. Now, after four years of streaming, when something goes wrong, I'm just like "Oh, sorry guys, there is something wrong!" (laughs) You grow a thick skin after a while. Q: Do you have any recommendations for people aiming to get into streaming? First of all, focus on setting your goals straight and know that each goal comes with different challenges. If you are looking for financial success, Twitch is a hard fight. It's super competitive, as everyone can stream these days. If you have a camera and a decent internet connection, you are good to go. In this free-for-all environment, you need to focus on what makes you special and why people should come to you. It's something that you have to build over years and years. If you are on Twitch to make friends, that is wonderful! Twitch is a great place to meet other like-minded people. When aiming to build a community, Twitch is a good place, but you will have to put a lot of effort into it. Start small; you don't have to invest five days of streaming a week from the start. You are going to burn out quickly that way. Q. On your streams, you use Clip Studio Paint when drawing. How did you get introduced to the software? I had heard about Clip Studio Paint online, either for a sale or via an ad and I noticed how affordable it was. During that time, I grew increasingly unhappy with the other software I was using. I saw Clip Studio had a huge following, so I took the chance to buy it. I had it sitting in my drive unused for the longest time, as I was just so used to the other software. During a particularly frustrating project that took me 50 hours I kept thinking that there must be a faster way of doing certain things and I remembered I had Clip Studio. I kept reading how it is great for lineart and had all these convenient features. I decided to spend one afternoon and learn this Clip Studio Paint thing and from that day, I never looked back. (laughs)
