A Snip Here… Snippets are a new feature in version 5. They’re FotoMagico’s name for elements that can be something more than shared library items and templates. They range from basic title text to advanced, multilayered animations with placeholders for your images. Music Snippets are supplied through Creative Commons licensing. There are a variety of split-screen options and an assortment of credit rolls, which will automatically load the appropriate author credits for the CC music Snippets. Story Snippets go a bit further, with placeholder images and text that suggest the kind of shots that will tell a good story. The program includes some samples for home use like Sightseeing, Museum, Zoo, etc. and, like the other kinds of Snippets, more are available for sale on Boinx’s website. (Most packages are $14.99, but there’s a pro-quality collection for wedding photographers for $149.) You can print out a Snippet set before going out on a shoot to get a shot list and storyboard to make sure you have all you need to make a great video. …and Assistance There There are two new Assistants to speed up the production of a show in the Pro version, Animation and Audio Marker. Audio Markers can guide your slide transitions to logical spots in your audio track.. (Audio Snippets include them already.) The Marker Assistant will either create periodic markers based on a song’s time signature and temp. In the Custom mode, you’ll be able to use the expanded audio waveform to place them more easily by hand. Version 5 also adds an oft-requested feature, precise controls for audio fades and audio ducking, which lowers the volume on other tracks while one, such as a narration, is playing. When you’ve completed your project, FotoMagico 5’s Share menu has virtually all the options you’ll need, with direct export to YouTube and Vimeo and presets for optimal encoding to Apple TV and your i-devices. There’s also an Apple ProRes preset or a manual option where you can make use of your resident QuickTime codecs and custom sizes, compression values and frame-rates.Overall, FotoMagico 5 has a fairly short and shallow
